SHAKY'S FISHING REPORT PAGE 3

Today I fished with a long time client Andy.  We started in the North end and worked our way to the Middle Lagoon area.  We had a great day with Andy's 35" red topping our day off.  There were fish everywhere and even old Capt. George got to catch a few.  The first cast of the day gave us a good 29" red.  As Always GOOD BTIE

Today I fished the Mid Lagoon area with Paul, Morgan and Andy.  What a day with these three on board.  Paul started his day with catching the Lagoon "SLAM" by 8:30 am.  All three anglers landed good reds with two perfect 26" reds and a few over size.  Mid day we were able to run up a 35" red for Paul.  We fished about four areas and boated everything from good size trout to flounder.  The reds are gorging themselves with shrimp for how orange they are.  I think the ending total was 11 or so reds some trout and flounder.  We saw at least 100+ reds during the day.  Morgan needs to save herself for the Lady Angler division in Fish Stock.  Paul also shot a great  video of Morgan and Andy fighting a double that I am trying to post on the Main Page.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George

Today I fished the Pole and Troll area of the Lagoon.  We had reds everywhere.  We ended our half day with 11 reds ( 3 over ).  All fish were sight fished and released.  The fish are eating shrimp day and night.  As Always "GOOD BITE" Caapt. George

3.23.11
Today we fished a half day in the North end of the Lagoon.  I have never seen so many boats on the water in the middle of the week.  There were 8 boats on Middles Flats at daylight (NOT FOR ME)..We decided to target trout so we went west.  The big trout were slamming Sebil's and also managed a good number of reds on the same plug.  We were back on the road by 11:00am with a livewell full of trout and one red we kept.  As Always "GOOD BITE" Capt. George

Today I fished with my wife Nina.  We made it an easy day, got on the water by 11:00 am and off by 3:00 pm.  We fished the South end of the lagoon and only fished two area's.  She ended her day with 7 reds in the boat with the largest being 26".  She had two perfect 26" and the rest were lower slot.  All in all a great day on the water.  She has come a long way sighting fish.  All fish were sighted and even had some tailers in the middle of the day.  She will be the second woman in the boat for Fish Stock.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. Well It finally quit raining and I got back on the water today with a client from the Keys.  Greg and I have fished together for three or so years and he is a great sight fisherman.  We started our morning around Edgewater targeting trout.  We did put two 20+ trout in the boat along with quite a few mid range fish.  We also found a good size flounder and some lower slot reds in our first area.  We then moved South fishing a new area being that the water was up.  We didn't have much luck in the new area off Shotgun but we did see a school that another boat was fishing.  We left that area a headed to a bay on the East where we found the fish stacked.  We lost count of the number of reds we caught and sighted.  We were off the water by noon with a cooler full of fish for him to take back to the Keys.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George

BOY I LOVE THE NORTH END "NOT"

Today I fished the South end of the Lagoon with a long time client.  Unlike yesterday up North I managed not to offend anyone.  My client had a great day on the water with a dozen or so trout and 8 reds with two perfect 26.5" tournament fish.  It was quite relaxing unlike yesterday.  I will be back in the North end with new clients on Monday.  I hope they don't have to experience what my client had to deal with yesterday.  I thank God every day that when I made the decision to retire from Engineering after 17 years and become a guide.  That he brought business my way.  I will post a report for Monday.  As Alwaays "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George

4.8.2011
This morning I fished a spec trip to a local lake here in Volusia county.  We had a good trolling bite in the morning producing a good number of specs.  The fish were staged in 9 to 11 ft of water and you had to keep adjusting your trolling speed to get the bite going.  The jig of choice was a grub pattern in the Acid Rain color.
The afternoon I fished the Ponce Inlet area with my wife.  We targeted Sheepshead and ended the day with eight keepers.  The boat traffice was heavy in the inlet so we had to stay inside dock fishing and that slowed our bite.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George

Today I fished with long time client and tournament partner Pat.  We took a page out of my old bass fishing days with a "Run and Gun" approach.  We started our day in the Orange Island area catching a good number of trout.  From there we headed South of the Pole and Troll once again catching some nice trout and reds.  We ended our day in the Klinker Islands finishing up with another school of reds.  I believe the final total was a dozen or so trout and eight reds up to 29".  All reds came on live shrimp and trout were caught on hards baits and shrimp.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George

Today I fished with new clients Mark and Kim from Texas.  We had a great day in the North end catching fish.  Mark's 26.5" red topped the day off but Kim got to catch her fist red every.  They were great people to fish and have in the boat.  I look forward many more trips with them and their friends.  All fish came on live bait, and we fished Zone 1.  They also caught trout and flounder.  All reds were sight fished on the flats of Mosquito Lagoon.  As Always "    GOOD BITE "  Capt. George

4.17.2011
Today I fished with new clients Danny and his son Eric and Tom.  We started out day catching trout off the oyster bars and then moved on to the flats.  We ended our half day @ 11:00 am with a good number of trout, flounder and yes reds.
I picked my wife up at JB's for the afternoon and we checked some areas for up coming tournaments.  We found a good number of "Fatty's" in the Edgewater area and Nina had a great afternoon on the few fish we threw at.  I didn't want to sore mouth the fish.  We then moved to the North end of the Lagoon and she had a blast sight fishing reds in a foot or so of water.  It was a great day on the water and not much boat traffic for a Sunday.  Fish came on Sebils, Mirror Lures and live shrimp.  The Lagoon is going off!!!!! As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George 386-506-1438

Week of 4/17/11
I am going to have to go to weekly reports (it's taking to much room on the site)..I fished three trips so far this week and another in the morning.  The trout bite has been great with fish coming on Sebile's, Mirror Lures and shrimp.  The reds are still schooled up in areas of the North End.  Those fish are eating live shrimp fished with little or no weight and fished very slow.  The Pins are bad but you gotta let the reds find the bait.  Make long casts in front of the school and they will eat.  There are singles up on the flats George's Bar to Orange Island.  Just pick and area and start poling.  The boat traffic has been up towards then end of the week and I amagine tomorrow will be crazy!!!! As Always "GOOD BITE"  Csapt. George

Week Ending 5/1/2011

The past week I fished three trips and a tounament on Friday.  The Lagoon changed throughout the week.  Water levels have been and continue to fall.  The wind blew all week, had a front pass through and yes we did manage to catch fish.  The plug bite (Sebiles and Mirror Lures) has been good all week for trout and some nice reds and floundere have been eating shrimp, finger mullet and cut bait.  Most of my time was spent hidden in the North end out of the wind.  The water was getting dirty by the end of the week.  There are still some schools of reds to be found up on the North flats.  I spent most of my time targeting singles and doubles that havn't been pressured.  For me the bite was much better ealier in the week with our big fish being a 31.5" Red caught by Morgan.  It looks like it's gonna blow the first part of this week so I'll be out seaching in the morning.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George

Week Ending 5/7/2011

Fished trips from the North end of the Lagoon to Ponce Inlet.  The lagoon bite has been strong with the water being low.  Look for some deeper water to find the reds.  Trout have been eating topwater in the morning around the white holes and on the flats to the North.  The reds have been on fire with fish coming on everything from topwater plugs, jigs and live shrimp.  We even got two Inlet trips in with catching limits of Black Drum and Sheepies.  Some of the drum have been over the 30" mark and big sheepies are coming on shrimp and fiddlers.  The cobia have been just offshore and that bite continues to be strong.  Whether you fish the back waters or the blue water fish are eating.  It just depends on what you want to target.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George  386-506-1438

Fished a few trips to the Inlet and the Lagoon this week.  Had to cut the week short because of motor problems again!!!!!  We did manage to catch quite a few reds, flounder and trout in the Inlet area,  Our Lagoon trips produced  numerous reds in and above slot with many double digit days.  The trout bite has been going off in the Lagoon with fish in the 7.0 lb range.  The reds have been caught in the North end on live shrimp and crabs.  The trout have been coming on Sebiles, Mirror Lures and Skitterwalks but if you can get Croakers fish them above all other artificial baits!!  The trout in the Inlet area have been eating the same plugs.  It was a great week on the water until I had to shut down with motor problems.  We found large (50+) schools of reds in the North end.  These fish were eager to eat crabs and shrimp.  The water level is up a little.  Just fish your flats and target singles and doubles and you will run into a school.  Fish the "outside" edges of the school so you dont spook the fish.  Many clients cast into the middle, catch a fish but the school is gone.  Fish the edges of deep water and hang on for some big reds.  I hope to be back on the water for the middle of next week to prepare for Fish Stock.  That all depends on my dealer to get the motor done.  If they don't I will have to scrub from Fish Stock but will post where I have found good numbers on upper slot reds.  The water in Edgewater is on the dirty side but still have good fish in "Longy's"  you just have to look harder to see them.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George   386-506-1438

FishStock 2011 Tournament

Picture
This will be a recap of the FishStock Tornamnet and the one day of pre-fishing before the tournamnet.  I was cut short of pre-fishing time because of motor problems and only got the boat back two days before.  That left me one day to pre-fish and one to bait fish.  On 5/26/11, I fished with Andy Brown and we found fish on the North end of the Lagoon.  Areas around Plantation Island and Catfish were going to be where I spent my time.  There weren't great numbers of fish, just the right size fish.  We ended our pre fish day with four reds ( the only fish I would allow Andy to cast on !!)
For the tournament I had Nina and Morgan as anglers in my boat.  Both ladies are very good at red fishing.  On the second cast in our first spot they boated a 21" trout.  We then started "sight fishing" reds, and had schools in our area but boat traffic and other fisherman made it a tough bite.  We stayed there until all but one boat left the bay and Morgan boated her 26.5" (6.36lb) red and Nina also boated a red for the scales.  Total that day were 6 or 8 reds and a trout.  Day two brought even more boats in the area.  Between trolling and big motors the fish scattered and headed for deep water.  We worked hard for the three reds we caught.  Although we could not upgrade Morgan's day one catch.  She finished on the podium with a huge smile on her face ( this being her first inshore tournamnet). Congrats to Morgan and Nina for a great finish on a tough bite.   As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George

WEEK ENDING 6/5/2011  ( AN EPIC DAY IN THE LAGOON )

Picture
The past weeks fishing started good and ended "GREAT"  The first of the week brought trips to the Lagoon with the trout and red bite being good.  Middle of the week we fished Ponce Inlet and had a good trip catching sheepies, redfish, trout and flounder.  The fish have been coming on Gulp and shrimp.  Fishing shrimp is a little tought because the pin fish are so bad.  The end of the week brought me one of my all time best trips to the South Lagoon.  My client Robert caught well over a dozen reds from 10 to 17 lbs.  The bite was going off.  We found singles, doubles and schools of 50+ fish.  It took him a while but did manage to catch two slot reds in the 26" range.  The trout bite was good in the morning with fish eating plugs off the white holes.  The red bite started about noon and we left the fish eating at three.  We had three doubles hooked up during the day ( yes ol" Capt. George got to wet a line).  At times I would olnly pole 20' and he was hooked up again.  If you want this kind of action give me a call!!!!!  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George 386-506-1438

Finally getting back in the swing of thing after the auto accident.  I fished a few times last week and twice this week, all with good results.  Yesterday we fished the middle lagoon area and had a great Redfish day.  In total my angler boated 15 Reds with 10 from 29" to 38".  We mainly stayed around the East Bank and Pole and Troll areas.  We pulling into our first area and were greeted by about two dozen Reds tailing!!!!  They stayed up feeding for aboout three hours and we moved into our second area that is known for large breeder Reds.  They were there!!  We lost the sun but could still make out the "BULLS" even in dirty water.  I poled that area until my clients arm was tired.
All fish were sightfished and came on live shrimp.  Remember the water temp is getting high so get the fish to the boat a quick as you can and back in the water even quicker.  Take ample time to revive the fish and keep an eye out even after they swim off.  Sometimes they will belly up and you have to give them even more help.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George

Lagoon Report for week ending 7/17/2011

Picture
This week I fished three trips to the Middle Lagoon area.  All three days gave us different fishing conditions some sun, clouds, rain and different wind directions and water clarity.  Even with all the changes thrown at us the fishing stayed very good and consistant.  As long as the bait pods stay in your area the reds will not move.  By the second trip you could set you watch by when you would start seeing tailers and reds bull dogging.  On Wednesday I had a short three hour trip and my client put 7 reds in the boat up to 31".  I think I poled a total of 100 yards that morning.  Thursdays trip with Alan and John frrom the Orlando area gave up a good number of reds to 36".  Alan had never sight fished before and his first sightfished red was a 33" "FATTY".  He is hooked on the slow quiet approach to red fishing.  The trout bite is still going off as well.  You should look for trout a little deeper and in or around the white holes.  The South end of the Pole and Troll has been giving up some nice fish on topwater and croakers.  The fishing should continue to get better and better.  I love the Lagoon in the hottest part of the Summer and like the middle of the day bite.  There is very little fishing pressure and the fish will eat first thing in the morning and the they are back again for their mid day snack.  My clients are trowing large shrimp but fish can be caught on live or artificial baits.  It's up to you.  My off days this week were spent loading the freezer with shrimp.  Yes the run has started here in the Daytona area and it's taking about an hour or two to fill your five gallon limit.  Size has differed from one day to the next.  We had one good day where we  pounded the Jumbo's, but the average run is still about large.  Shrimp are being netted from the Ormond Beach area to Port Orange.  If your looking for a exciting sightfishing trip to the "World Famous" Mosquito Lagoon or a trip here in the Ponce Inlet area of Daytona Beach give me a call.  As Always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George 386-506-1438

WEEK ENDING 8/7/2011

Picture
The redfish bite this week in the South end of the Lagoon has been going off.  Every trip out produced double digit red catches with most fish over 30".. The key has been to look for the bait and you will find the fish.  We fished areas from Vans  Island to Turtle Pen Point.  The fish want to relate to bait and deeper water close by.  The big fish of the week was a whopping 38" fish.  All fish caught this week were sight  fished!!!!!!  I rarely throw cut bait and now is not the time to do so.  Get up on the flats and slow pole your way around looking for active fish.  The water is dirty so take it slow.  If  you must throw live mullet or pigs to catch some reds.  As always "GOOD BITE"  Capt. George  386-506-1438
