                                                Captain George's Fishing Report

Today I fished with a long time friend Pat.  We mainly stayed in the South End of Mosquito Lagoon.  The fish were there just a little spooky.  We spend 4 hrs on the water with 4 Reds coming on live shrimp.  The largest Red was 30" and the smallest was 25".  We consentrated around the East Bank and most of the fish were pushing or tailing.  The number of fish that we sighted doesn't reflect our 4 fish total.  Mondays are usually tough (after a weekend of other anglers pounding the flats) but we did have a great day on the water.  The next scheduled day is Wednesday, and I plan to fish the Edgewater area.  As always Good Bite.

Today I fished with new clients from Georgia.  The reds were willing and the anglers were ready.  We fished the Mid Lagoon area and targeted tailing fish.  The reds sayed up into the afternoon.  All our fish came on live shrimp.  We poled the entire time out there and the reds made it worth our time.  We did find a a large school on the outside next to deep water.  Most fish in that school were well over the 30" mark and were ready to eat.  The fish are definatly in their Summer pattern and ready to eat well into the day.  As Always Good Bite.

7/12/10
There is a large school of Reds off the bar at Cucumber Island...Most of the fish are oversized but fun to catch.  The Trout fishing is still best in the first few hours of the morning.  The baits of choice are shrimp and croakers...As Always Good Bite.

Fished a 4 hr. charter today in the Mid Lagoon area.  The fish were very shallow with some tailing but mostly pushing.  We ended the trip with 5 Reds all slot with the largest at 27".  We set out to sight fish but lost the sun around 9:00am.  All fish were caught on shrimp.  GOOD BITE

Fished the North End of the Lagoon today ( Zone 1 )....My client had 7 hook ups and landed 5 reds before 10:00am.  The largest fish was 33" and the shortest was a fat 25".  All fish were caught in about 2' of water and all were sight fished.  The school we fished was about 75 fish strong.  We fished a total of three areas and two of the three had good numbers of fish.  Just slow down and wait them out.  The water temp is very warm so most of the good bite is over by noon.  All fish came on live shrimp but they would have eated artificials if we opted to throw them...As Always GOOD BITE..

7/202010
Fished the North end of the Lagoon today (Zone 1 again).  We have been watching a school of reds that are about 75 fish strong.  We did check on them and they were there although we did not fish them.  We fished three new areas along with some old trout holes.  We ended our day at 11:00am with 4 reds in the slot (above 22" and a livewell full of trout.  The biggest trout weighed in right at 5.0lbs and was caught sight fishing.  The other trout were caught blind casting live bait.  The Lagoon just keeps producing day after day.  I have been fishing it since 1983 and it just keeps amazing me.  If you have the right guide it will amaze you to..As Always GOOD BITE !!!!

I had the privlage today to fish with Chris and Dylan from North Carolina.  These two boys were age 18 and 12 and have never fished the Lagoon before.  They had the day of their life.  They fished better than some of the experts I have had onboard.  The day ended with 4 Redfish, numerous Trout and a Jack bite that was going off.  We fished the North end of the Lagoon and all the reds came very shallow.  The Jacks are busting all over the East Channel and will eat anyting.  The Trout came from the Edgewater area with the largest in the mid 20"'s and ate live Croakers and Bite A Bait plugs.  I look forward to spending a day on the water with these two boys agian.  Check out the photo's page for more of their pictures.  As always GOOD BITE!!!!!

Fished alone this morning.  I don't get much of that anymore.  Fished mainly around Hullover looking to see if the Tarpon have shown up.  I did see a few but no hook ups...Ended the morning with 8 trout.I didn't chase the Reds today....... Kinda slow but I have a charter that wants sto fish Hullover on Friday.  I think I am going to talk them into fishing the North end.  The bite is so much better.  As always GOOD BITE!!!!

Today I fished with good friends from high school, John, Ronnie and John's daughter Sienna.  Of course Sienna caught the biggest Redfish @ 27" on the dot.  We had a great day on the water with 5 hook ups with reds and caught at least 20 trout in the moring.  We fished Zone 1 and had to search for a good supply of reds.  We finally found them on the East Bank and poled up at least 50 fish. Once again the fish were very shallow and it was a challenge with four people in the boat. My area from yesterday that was full of tailers only produced a few fish.  I do have to apoligize to John, after a hook up on a good red I got gready from the poling platform and saw another red in the hole and wanted another double.  Needless to say I threw over John's line. In the process of un tangling the lines John's fish pulled the hook.  I APOLIGIZE AGAIN.  I know better than that and try not to gank my anglers.
I look forward to fish with the three of them again " Especially Sienna"  As Always  GOOD BITE!!!!

8/3/10
Today we fished the Middle Lagoon area.  We fished 4 hrs. and ended our day with 5 Reds.  The largest was pushing 30".  All fish were caught on the shallow flats with some tailing.  The bait was live shrimp with a small split.   As Always GOOD BITE

Today I had the pleasure to fish with Ed, Kelly and their two sons Bret and Ed.  We fished in zone 1 and caught a large variety of fish but mainly targeted Reds.  My goal was to get the boys on some of our big redfish.  We topped off the day with a 25 1/2 " red that both boys had the pleasure of fighting.  I always enjoy having young anglers in the boat and these two boys were ready for any challenge.   They did great from catcing Lady's to fighting reds on the flats.  These two are going to be our future guides.  I know Ed will end up running a "Trolling Vessle" of some sort.  I look forward to the family coming back to Cental Florida hopefully to do some of our famous Spec. fishing.  As Always GOOD BITE.....

8/7/10
Fished a little this weekend.  The conditions were not in favor of sight fishing.  I mainly checked on some fish and they were there.  For the next two weekends I will be out of town hunting in SC.  I will be available during the week for charters and will change my plans for clients that want to fish the weekend bite.

8/19/10
Took a few days off for the start of the South Carolina deer season....Got back Tuesday  and had to pre fish today for some upcoming charters.  Fished in Zone 1.   Ended the day @ 1:00 pm with 8 reds from 33" to 22"...All the fish I caught were tailing.  I did not cast on any other schooling or crusing fish.....The fish were everywhere I checked.  I look forward to the next few day...As always GOOD BITE.

8/24/10
Fished part of the weekend with some looming weather in the forcast.  The bite overall was good and the weather never really affected the morning bite.  That is until yesterday!  Figuring the weather man was wrong I fished the the North End with a forcasted 10 to 15 mph wind out of the Southwest.  He was right it blew from daylight until I got off the water at noon.  The wind was bad but the cloudcover was more of a problem.  With Sightfishing the more sun the better the Reds show up.  I had a hard time getting my client to see the fish.  Sometimes I forget that I am another three feet higher than the client on the casting platform.  We did manage to catch some Ol' Faithful Trout and and a few Reds but not the day I was hoping for.  Just when you think you have fish figured out. Mother nature throws a wrench into your plans.  As Always Good Bite.

8/30/10
Took a few days off from fishing to try to get a buck in velvet in South Carolina.  Saw plenty of deer but no shooter bucks from the stand.  Will try again in a few weeks.  Now on to fishing, got home and went directly to throwing a shrimp net in Port Orange.
Ended the day with about five gallons, mostly mediums. My shrimping connection has confirmed that they are killing them just North of Granoda bridge.

Today I fished the Middle of the lagoon with my wife Nina. We got on the water about 9:30 a.m and finished our day at 1:30 p.m.  Nina had a redfish day of a lifetime, with 8 hook-ups and 5 fish in the boat, with the largest being just over 31".  Today was a sight fishermans dream, with clear skies and flat conditions past noon.  We literally saw close to 75 redfish up on the shallow flats.  The water level in the lagoon is up and probably still rising, giving the fish new territories to explore for their next meal.  Add in the fact that the spawn is happening, makes this an ideal time to catch and release a trophy of a lifetime.  All fish were caught on live shrimp using a 2/0 circle hook and a #3 split.  We fished from Preachers Island South to Cucumber Island and found fish in 1-3 feet of water.  As always, GOOD BITE!

9/4/10
Against my best judgement on fishing during a holiday weekend, today I fished with Rich, fishing the same areas that were loaded with redfish yesterday.  We began our day at sunrise and ended the day at 1 p.m.  To our best efforts we ended our day with one hookup on a slot size red.  I believe due to the overwhelming boat traffic that yesterdays fish pulled off the flats and went deep.  We had boats running all over the flats. My next day for fishing will probably be the middle of next week, giving the fish a chance to settle after the holiday. As always, GOOD BITE!

9/9/10
Tried something different today, decided to fish topwater until about 9:30 a.m.  Caught about a dozen trout on the dock lights from 5:30 til 6:30 a.m.  Size ranged from 13' to 23'.  Started throwing a hard walking bait around Orange Island and picked up 3 redfish up to 25'.  Moved down to a spot off Slippery Creek and caught 2 more reds on top and one red on shrimp.  Went to pulling the flats, checked 5 areas on the North end and found a small school on the West side.  Caught 2 reds out of the school and ended my day at noon time.  Will be fishing the next few days in the North and middle lagoon area. As always, GOOD BITE!!

Today I fished with an Ol' buddy Capt. Mark from Port Orange.  Mark aned I met while getting our captains liscense and just now got a chance to fish together.  The day started early and we were on the water by 5:30 am fishing the docks.  The trout bite was going off when we got there until we were taken over by porpoises.  When you get on the trout it doesn't take them long to find you.  We did manage a dozen or so trout before being run off.  We fished our first redfish area and found that a school of trout had moved in overnight.  We caught a few more trout and did pick up one 23" red.  The second area was full of bait and we were throwing topwater so the odds were in our favor ( I thought)....We only managed one red out of that area.  We had allot of fish blowing up short on the baits.  The day before the bite was very aggressive.  The only difference was on Thursday the overcast sky lasted until about 9:30...Today it was bright by 8:00am.  We went to poling the flats and picked up Marks 26" red down on the South end of the Lagoon.  We had fish around us they were a little spooky and didn't really want to eat.  Somewhere (I don't remember we picked up another red.  We called it a day around noon.  The fish are keying on the shallow baitfish and feeding early.  Once that sun gets up they are moving off into about 5 to 6 feet of water.  As Always GOOD BITE!!!!!

9-28/10
Took some time off to hunt in SC.  Got backt to the lagoon this morning with Mark from Port Orange.  We had some fish on top water early then switched over to to poling.  Found fish on the South end of the Lagoon and  on the East Bank.  We were run off the water by storms around noon.  We ended the day with 4 Reds (slot) and a few trout.  Once again there is so much water in the Lagoon look for areas that you would normally fish in the Spring.  The schools aren't big but there are alllot of singles to be caught. Allways Good Bite!!!!

Fished the North End Of the Lagoon today.  Ended the day at noon with 8 or so Trout with the lagest around 22" and 6 Reds with the largest 28.5".  Also caught a door mat flounder on finger mullet...The bite was on top all morning and we switched to live bait arouns 11:00am    Had one good Tarpon hooked and the other was the flounder bite.  As Always Good Bite.

10/1/10
Fished the North end today with Rich from Port Orange.  The weather man was calling for 10 -15 out of the North so we stayed up around Edgewater.  For the past few weeks I have been catching nice reds on top up in this area.  Today we couldn't buy a red bite.  We did catch about 10 trout up to 22" but no reds.  At 10:00 am I made a change, the weather man was wrong, wind was slight so I ran to the North end of the Lagoon.  Our first area showed some promise and our second area paid off.  We fished around the East bank and after one pole we ended with three reds in the boat all slot with the largest @26".  There were reds pushing all over the flat.  The fishing should keep getting better in the next few months.  The bite will get later but the fish should start to tighten up.  As Always Good Bite.

10/6/10
Today I fished the Middle and North Lagoon Area.  The morning was cool in the low 60's and the fish were in a the same mood.
I caught about a half dozen trout early and then went to find some reds.  The wind was 15 to 20 out of the North so the boat ride to the mid Lagoon was fun.  I did find fish early laying up on the mud flats but they were not really interested in eating.  I caught my first reds at 9:30am and had to force feed the bait to him.  I did find more singles in the area and all were wanting the water to warm up.  At 11:30am I made it back to the North end and fished one of my favorite areas.  Within minutes on the poling platform I started seeing catchable reds.  I made casts on three fish and caught two.  I mainly was looking for client fish for the weekend.  The bite will be middle of the day on.  The fish really want the sun to warm the water before they come off the mud or out of the grass.  This is Mosquito Lagoon fishing at it's finest.  If you have the will to wait them out they will reward you with a great day on the water.  As Always Good Bite!!!!

10/8/10
Today I fished with Buzzy and Bo Bo in zone 1 and 2 of the Lagoon.  We started our morning down in zone 2, right on the East Bank.  We had reds pushing around us but they were just were not feeding.  They seemed to be keying on points, sandholes and mud bottoms.  We did manage to push about 8 or so fish off one point and hooked up.  That fish came @ 8:30.  Our goal was to make it until around 11:00am and move to a flat that I had good numbers on earlier in the week.  We started on the flat @ 11:15am and immediatly got on fish.  Our first push through the area gave us three reds to 26".  I called a friend that was fishing a tournament and pulled him into the area.  His first push gave him his two keeper Reds and he left to go catch his trout.  We stayed in the area until 1:30pm and ended the day with fish all around us.  The ending total was 11 hook-ups withe 9 Reds to the boat with two of those upper slot fish. Not a bad day half day charter.  I say again that the Lagoon is fishing like a Winter pattern, with the fish becoming most active in the middle of the day.  This is my favorite time to fish, most fisherman are off the water before the bite starts and there are large numbers of fish to be caught.  If you want in on the excitment book a charter with me.  As Always Good Bite.    Photo's of the day are posted on my photo page.

10/15/10
Today I fished a double charter in zone 1.  The morning bite on reds has been slow this weeke so we started a little later and worked an area that produced last week.  We saw a few reds, but no where near the numbers that were there before.   We moved into a secondary area and scored with two reds in the mid 20's.  A third red came from a white hole and  we had a few fish pull the hook and that ended ourt trip for the morning.  The afternoon trip was much better with larger numbers of fish moving up on the flats.  Both charters had young anglers in the boat wanting to catch their first reds and they did.  Back to the afternoon bite.  There were fish in an area that was producing last month.  We pulled up and after a few pushes I saw three studs against the shore.  We worked around the point and into  a bay in the area and it was full of fish up on the mud flat.  We ended our day with another 4 reds in the baot and an oversized that the captain missed with the Boga ( MY BAD)..and a few more fish that pulled the hook.. Overall both charters had a great day on the Lagoon sight fishing.  My charters that day wanted to strickly site fish and none of our reds came blind casting.  I pride myself on putting clients on fish they can see and catch.  I rarely blind cast or cut bait( unless that's what my clients prefer ) or fishing croakers for Trout.  My next charter is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday of next week  so check in for the updated report.  As Always Good Bite!!!!

Today I had the pleasure to fish with three clients from Indiana.  Before todays trip the largest fish any of them had caught was some Crappie.  None of my clients had every saltwater fished let alons sight fished for Reds.  We fished the entire day in zone 1 with 9 reds coming to the boat and three fish pulling the hook.  My clients did a great jobs of understanding me when  I was talking about with a fish pushing along with seeing fish.  Our largest fish today was right at 26.5 and we had many other is in the mid 20" range.  All fish
came on schrimp and were sight fished.  I hope that they had a trip of a lifetime. I know I had a great day on the water with them.... Thank You  again for booking  with Shakys Charters... My next trip is tomorrow and I will post our catch.... Till then check out some of the new pictures... As Alway Good Bite.... Capt. George

Today I fished with Mark in zone 1.  The trout bite was going off on top until about 8:30am.  Then we switched and started poling some deep flats.  This easily could have been a 20 fish day if we stayed out past 12:30.  The fish were in the deeper holes on the flats and eating anything you put in front of them.  They were hard to see with the wind and the off colored water but that made the bite even better.  We ended our day with at least a dozen trout and 10 Reds with the largest @ 29".  It broke my heart to leave the fish feeding but we had to go.  I will be back in the morning and expect the bite to continue.  As Always Good Bite.  Capt. George

10.28.10
Today was one of those once in a lifetime days in the Lagoon.   Not only did I get the chance to spend a day on the water alone.  The fish were in a mood that I havn't seen in a long time.  I ended my day at 1:30 pm with 16 reds in the boat. It very easily could have been a 30 fish day!!!! I fished an area in the North end that has one of largest concentrations of fish I have seen.  You could blind cast and catch fish or just sit back and sight fish.  You know I had to sight fish.  I didn't cast at half the fish I saw.  I stood on the poling platform just amazed with the number of fish that  could see.  The average is about 24" but I did put a 33" and a few more over slot in the boat.  I am scheduled to leave for a hunt on Sunday.  I hope these fish stay in the area for the week that I am gone.  As Always Good Bite.  Capt. George

Today we fished zone 1 and the word for the day is SCHOOLS...There are medium size schools of reds all over the North end of the Lagoon.  We fished a half day and ended with 11 reds(all slot with the largest at 29") in the boat with three others pulling the hook.  We also caught a decent number of trout with the largest being 4.5 lbs...  The wind was blowing a steady 10 to 15 out of the North.  Spent the entire time poling into the wind because of the angle of the sun.  We pulled off the water with fish still feeding.  Like I have been saying, we are coming up on some of the best fihing the Lagoon has to offer.  Book a charter of a lifetime with Capt. George.  As always Good Bite.

11/20/10
Today my tournament partner Greg and I fished the North end Zone 1.  We ended the day @ 1:30 with 14 reds in the boat and 5 pulling the hook.  We had overcast sky's all morining but that kept the reds up tailing until noon.  We boated 9 reds all tailing and saw numerous others.  About noon the sun came out and we went to sight fishing and boated 5 more reds with our largest of the day ( 29").  We could have loaded the boat today.  All fish were caught sight fishing and on live shrimp.  If you want this kind of action please contact me.  The fishing is only gonna get better and better.  As always "Good Bite"

11/22/10
Today we fished the Northend (Zone 1)...It rained on us almost the entire morning. Wind was 15 from the South. We caught two perfect 26" reds early while we could see them tailing... We moved to an area that held fish for the past month and ended up with 9 mores in the boat (all blind casting).. . He and his better half are fishing again in the morning.  As Always "Good Bite"

11/23/10
Today we fished the North end of the Lagoon.  Perfect weather just some "Spooky" Reds.  We managed to put 7 fish in the boat by 1:00pm...The fished had moved  a couple hundred yards but we found them up tailing.  All fish were caught on live bait and sight fished.  If you want to cut bait then call another guide if you wnat to see the fish your catching than give me a call...386-506-1438

12/3/10
Today we pre fished for the Jeff Patterson Benefit Tournament.  I checked on my reds in the North end of the Lagoon and then picked up my partner in New Symrna Beach and headed to North the some other areas including Spruce Creek.  We had a good day on the water catching everything from redfish to sheepshead and flounder around the inlet.

12/4/10
We fished the Jeff Patterson Tournament and had a blast on the water for a great cause.  We started our day in the North end (Zone 1) of the Lagoon catching quite a few reds and finally got out of there with a 26" and 25" red.  So we headed North to catch our Sheephead..In our first area just South of the Inlet we boated 2 nice sheepshead, so that species was done.  We headed to the inlet to catch our Flounder and Jacks.  We did catch our Jacks but lost our Flounder.  So we headed to weigh in feelin "pretty good"...Although we had a great day fishin together 2 bad things happened.  The first was while jumping off the poling platform to net a fish my foot got hung up and I busted my A__ __.. Thankfully I fell into the boat and hurt myself, but saved my pride.  I just can't take the humiliation of falling out of the boat like a long time friend did just a week before.  The second bad thing was my partner and I were under the imprssion from the Captain's meeting that lines out was 2:00pm and we had until 3:00pm to get back to the Fishing Store to weight our fish.  As we were headed in my wife sent me a text that weigh in was over at 2:00 pm and they were starting to had out awards.  I learned a valuable lesson from this, "NEVER" consume two many beers at a Captain's Meeting!!!!!  Us and a few other boats must have been drinking the same brand because they were late also.  We still had a great day fishing together for a great person "Jeff".  As Always GOOD BITE

12/8/10 12/9/10
The past few days been fishing the Ponce Inlet  & NSB area mainly targeting sheephead and drum.  Yesterday was a double digit day for the heads and no drum.  Today the sheephead were much larger just not as many.  In ended the day with 6 keeper sheeps with the largest about three pounds and one good size black drum.  I have been fishing docks around Ponce and using Fiddlers for eats.  Back to Red fishing tomorrow and Saturday I hope the weather is better and my clients arn't from the North Pole.  As Always Good Bite!!!!!

12/10/10
Fished zone one today with my lady angler and ended a half day trip with 6 reds in the boat.  The largest was 29" caught on live shrimp.  We did see a couple very large schools of reds but they slipped off into deep water.  I have never seen as many "Gator" trout as we did today.  The spawn is in full bloom and they are filling the shallows.  It looks like our cold Winter last  year didn't hurt our trout as bad as we thought.  Fishing again in the morning with some clients from Tampa.
As Always "Good Bite"
